The CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining consists of modeling the piece by chip removal (material subtraction). The computer is responsible for guiding the machining of the machine according to the parameters entered by means of a special machining program (CAM).

In order to transform raw parts into finished products, each project must go through three phases:

  • CAD model design;
  • Implementation of the CAM program in the programming language;
  • Mechanical machining of the part;

During these three phases it is important to rely on specialized personnel who know:

  • Software and technical-informatic languages;
  • The characteristics of the material on which it is worked, such as mechanical strength, composition, workability and other parameters useful for the realization of the project;
  • CNC machine management;

CNC machining allows the production of complex projects in series, in a short time and at limited costs.
Moreover, thanks to its enormous versatility, CNC milling is currently used in important reference markets: food, medical industry, transport, aerospace, electronics, oil & gas, up to craft projects. Market trends show how CNC machining also finds space in new technologies, in the renewable energy sector and in industrial automation.

What you can do with the online milling service

In the case of 3-axis milling, the machine processes the part by moving it simultaneously along the 3 axes X, Y and Z. This method allows working on flat and free-form surfaces that provide for the machining of hollow areas or vertical holes whose internal angles are chamfered. With our online milling service we can make a wide range of products, such as washers, gears, custom components for machinery, relief or bas-relief squares, milled engravings or perforated and/or slotted bars for switchboards. We are also able to produce various types of wave welding templates, mechanical spare parts for means of transport and the most varied mechanical accessories.

Limits of online milling

In Errebilab we have a 3-axes CNC milling center, the dimensions of the work field are 900 x 600 mm.
There are 2; 2.5; 3; 4; 5-axis milling. For complex machining, 3-axis modelling could have some limitations compared to 4 and 5 as they add 2 more rotary axes expanding the modelling possibilities of the raw material and the precision of the machining itself.
In any case, with this milling center it is possible to achieve a wide range of combined machining along the 3 axes available: this allows to perform compound movements along the X, Y and Z axes.

What materials can we work with

At ErreBiLab we deal with a wide range of materials:

  • Wood
  • Plastic
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Aluminium

Wood (or wood-based materials), thanks to its mechanical characteristics, allows to obtain a high precision of the finished piece and a high productivity. This is because higher processing speeds can be used, since wood has a lower mechanical strength than other materials.

As far as plastics are concerned, the same applies to wood, since the mechanical properties are generally comparable (in most cases).

The metal alloys on which we operate are multiple and allow us to respond to different customer needs:

  • Copper: often used for machining inserts and customizations, it is also excellent for the creation of prototypes and for all types of electronic components, given its high conductivity.
  • Brass: is a material that has excellent corrosion resistance and is a hostile environment for bacteria. This is why it is widely used in the health sector. It also has a wide range of colours and excellent acoustic properties, so it is used for decorations and musical components.
  • Aluminium: Higher performance metal alloy, used in a wide range of applications. Aluminium has very high flexibility characteristics and an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. It is also an inexpensive and easily available material.

How ErreBiLab works

ErreBi Lab is the online prototyping service for those who need to develop a model (simple or complex) quickly and at competitive costs.

We have designers who can design your model and/or direct you in the production phase: from design, to the choice of materials, up to the realization.

A few simple steps to achieve your project:

  1. Choose the type of material you want;
  2. Choose the type of finish;
  3. Choose the colour of the material;
  4. Select machining precision: high, medium, low;
  5. Upload the processing file in one of the following formats: .stl, . obj, .stp (maximum size 1300mm x 900mm; x 500mm);
  6. After uploading the file, you can view the estimate of the product to be made and the expected discounts based on the quantity;
  7. Before adding the product to the cart you can review all the previously entered parameters, modify them and get the updated unit cost in real time;
  8. Once the product characteristics have been defined, notes can be added for the production department;
  9. Add the product to the cart and confirm your order.

For large quantities and additional processing we advise you to request a personalised quote. If you need assistance we are at your disposal: fill out the form or contact us at the reference number. We will handle your request quickly.
